What is DMR IP Site Connect?

IP Connect is an advanced system that links multiple DMR Tier II conventional repeaters across various locations using IP networks. This includes wide area networks (WANs) such as the internet, local area networks (LANs) within institutions like hospitals or school districts, VPNs, and even microwave links. The system is highly scalable, supporting configurations from a few repeaters to dozens, and can accommodate repeaters set up for Tier II Conventional, XPT, or DMR Tier III.

Key Features and Benefits

IP Connect is ideal for organizations needing reliable communication across wide areas, whether within a city, across a state, or even nationwide. Typical users include:

  • K12 School Districts
  • Universities with satellite campuses
  • Businesses with multiple offices, warehouses, and manufacturing sites
  • Hospitals and regional medical facilities
  • Property management companies

The IP network transmits DMR-standard radio information, replacing the traditional radio airwave signal. Once the remote repeater receives this data, it transmits it as a standard digital radio signal, repeating the traffic locally as if it originated there.

Because IP Connect adheres to the DMR Standard, it supports a full range of features:

  • Group Calls
  • Individual (Private) Calls
  • All Call (broadcasts to everyone, regardless of group)
  • Emergency Calls (including Lone Worker and Man-down alerts)
  • Calls requiring GPS information

Practical Application: Site-to-Site Communication

Imagine an organization with multiple locations, each having regular internal radio traffic but occasionally needing to communicate with other sites. IP Connect facilitates this seamlessly, as simple as changing radio channels.

Here’s how it works:

  1. User at Site 1: Switches the radio to the Site 3 channel.
  2. Site 1 Repeater: Sends the radio traffic through the IP network.
  3. Site 3 Repeater: Receives the radio traffic from the IP network and transmits it to the designated users on the Site 3 channel.

This process occurs in real-time, making it appear as though all users are at the same location.

Customizable Communication

When configuring the system, call groups can be established for radio channels to communicate with local users at each site or across different sites via IP Connect. Multiple channels (talk groups) can be set up for both individual sites and IP Connect locations, ensuring flexible and efficient communication.

In summary, IP Connect significantly enhances two-way radio coverage, providing scalable, reliable, and real-time communication across vast distances and multiple sites.

Application Example – Site to All Sites

In the event of an emergency or when critical information needs to be disseminated to all users across all sites, the “all call” channel can be programmed into every radio. When a broadcast is made on this channel, it ensures that everyone hears it, irrespective of their group or site location.

Cost-Effective and Reliable Communication with IP Connect

IP Connect offers a reliable and cost-effective solution for instant individual and group calling across multiple locations. If your existing repeaters are Hytera, there’s no need for new hardware to establish a wide-area radio network—only a licensing upgrade is required. The H-Series HR1062 Repeater supports IP Connect, and any DMR two-way radios that comply with the DMR standard can be used, as the repeaters utilize the IP network to carry DMR traffic.
